Don Coatney Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I spoke with my cousin who lives in Arlington, Texas. He sent me pictures of semi trailers hurling through the air like toothpicks not 5 miles from his home that was untouched. Quote

hkestes41 Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I am probably 20-25 miles from Don's cousin in far north Plano. Our tornado sirens went off 5 or 6 times, but all we got was some heavy rain and a brief period of small hail. The Lancaster (south side of Dallas) and Forney (about 35 miles east of Dallas) were hit pretty hard. In addition to the trailers that were thrown at least 100 feet in the air, a woman in Forney was riding out the storm in her SUV waiting to pick up her daughter at the elementary school. The storm got bad enough that she decided to go into the building which was heavily damaged. When she came out her SUV was gone. She found it when the news helicopter showed a shot of it mangled in the middle of a field about 150yards from the school. I just thank the Lord that nobody was killed. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I called Kirk (h k estes) tonight to check on him since I couldn't recall which town he lives in. He explained that the damage was south of his locale. Kirk and some other fellows from the HAMB came to Joplin after our tornado to volunteer their help, including some assistance to me. One thing they did was cook a LOT of burgers to feed other volunteers. In tornado related news...... today Joplin voters approved a bond issue to provide the rest of the money needed on top of insurance proceeds to rebuild and upgrade our public schools. Our new house is still coming along.....the brick and stone on the front has been completed; today they hooked up the water and sewer lines. Tomorrow plumbing fixtures should be installed. Still needs some flooring done. M-a-y-b-e we can get in at end of the month of April. Mary Ann is looking forward to sitting on her new back porch....... Quote
