19fortybizcoupe Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I have this posted on another site, I thought I would post it over here too for you guys..I wanted to lower my car all the way around and still have the stock suspension, so I chose Fatman fab's dropped uprights for the front which required the addition of front disc brakes. In addition I cut one coil off the coil springs for an additional 1" or so of drop. For the disc brake kit I chose Scarbird's kit which worked very well for my budget. For the rear I purchased 3" blocks from Butch's cool stuff. I'm very happy with the results..Hope you guys enjoy the pics. Quote
19fortybizcoupe Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 More pics with the new dropped upright and I bead blasted the parts and painted them all purdy Quote
19fortybizcoupe Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 Seperated the bearing hubs from the drums to allow the new brake rotors to mount to them, Have to turn down the outer diameter of the hub to allow it to fit the the "hat" of the rotor. Cut one coil off the springs for a little more drop..Purchased used calipers and rebuilt them and painted them in caliper paint.. Quote
19fortybizcoupe Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 Purchased 3" dropped lowering blocks from butch's cool stuff and installed them while I was waiting for the machine shop to install new kingpin bushing in the spindles..Pics show the before and after the blocks Quote

19fortybizcoupe Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 Off the stands and back together showing the old stance and the new MUCH MUCH better stance...So what do you guys think? Quote
Robert Smith Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I liked the old stance... At least in my area, curbs are much higher and there are more and more speed bumps around so, the stock stance is more practical. But, from a "cool" point of view, I can see why this makes more sense to you. Quote
Andydodge Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I like it, tho' do you have enough clearance at hard right/left lock against the fender edge?. also what does the suspension feel like with the new shock mounts, can you notice any real difference as I've been pondering whether to do this to my car........ and what shocks did you use.........many thanks for taking the time to post the pics & info, this is what makes this such a great forum.......andyd Quote

The shocks are Monroe gas #33033 Quote
40plyrod Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 I like it! What size tires are you running now? Quote

deathbound Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Looks great. I'm subscribed to your thread on "the other" site, just haven't been on for a while. I'd love to get my front end down a little, except the '38 has a tube axle/leaf spring set-up. Keep it up...or should I say down. Quote
38plymouth Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Looks great. I'm subscribed to your thread on "the other" site, just haven't been on for a while. I'd love to get my front end down a little, except the '38 has a tube axle/leaf spring set-up. Keep it up...or should I say down. I lowered my 38 in the front by removing 1 leaf spring. I wonder if the dropped uprights from his 40 would work on a 38? I'd love to put the leafs back in and lower it the right way. I can't get the Fatmans catalog to download to check it. Quote
james curl Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 If your 38 has leaf springs on the front then it will have a solid axle under it and dropped uprights will not work on a solid or straight axle. The axle would have to have more drop put into it or if the springs are on the bottom of the axle you could use lowering blocks. If the axle is under the springs you can reverse the placement to over the springs and notch the frame for clearance. Quote
19fortybizcoupe Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Thanks guys for the positive responses..I will have some more pics shortly of the car out of the garage on the street and the front bumper back on it..I have had lots of mixed opinions on the front bumper on/off..But I love bumpers, so its going back on.. moparfinman Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Really like your car. Thanks for the post. I have been wanting to hear from someone that has used Fatmans dropped uprights, to hear their thoughts. I will be doing this later this year on my 56 Dodge. And mabe on a 47 DeSoto. Quote
