B-Watson Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 (edited) Being on the Pacific side of the US, that car could have come from either Canada or Hawaii. Hawaii was considered an export area before becoming a state in 1959 and the "Plodges" were sold there. I'm another that does not care for "Plodge" or the DeSoto's "Plysoto). To identify what you have, what is the serial number? Check the driver's door hinge post. Is there a tag attached to the firewall with just stuff as Model Number, Body Number, Paint Code and Trim Code. The engine number is stamped into the engine block left (driver's) side just below the head by the #1 cylinder. In the U.S. Chrysler Corporation declared that all cars built on or after December 1, 1948, were 1949 models. Production of the postwar P15, D24, S11, C38, etc. continued to late January / early February, 1949 when the lines were shut down for the change to the new models. Plymouth factories, for example, were shut down for the first two weeks of February. Canada was a bit different. Sales of the 1948 models weresoftening and production of the P15, D24, D25, S11 and C38 came to end along with the month of December. Thus no 1949 models of the P15, etc. Production resumed in March, 1949, with the new models. Edited March 26, 2012 by B-Watson Quote

Engine is laying on the ground on it's left side. As it would require effort on my part to look at the numbers. It aint gonna happen. lol If I was doing a major restoration on this car I would be keeping and cataloging all this info. I'm not. Everyone on this board has been a tremendous help. But I'm taking it apart, putting new "non correct" parts in and driving the wheels off it. Quote

And I won't bother you again. Quote
chopped51 Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 AARRRGGGG I can't take it anymore!! Here's the VIN number from the passanger (right) side A pillar. 9730757 Maybe someone with more smarts than me can tell me what the hell is sitting in my shop. Quote

Here's the VIN number from the passanger (right) side A pillar. 9730757Maybe someone with more smarts than me can tell me what the hell is sitting in my shop. By the look up function on my web site at http://www.ply33.com/Misc/vin we have: Serial Number 9730757 Found in range 9726705 to 9743542 Serial 4053 of 16838 Year 1947 Make Dodge Model Code D25 Plant Windsor Engine 6 cylinder L-head Wheelbase 117 inches Note Canadian Dodge version of US Plymouth P15 Pre-WW2 Plymouth/Dodges had their serial numbers on the right front door hinge post. Sounds like Canadian ones kept it there after US built cars switched to driver side. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 My 46pickup still had it on the pass side. The 47 pickups switched to the drivers side. One of the few very minor details that allow a 46 and 47 to be identified. Quote
chopped51 Posted March 27, 2012 Author Report Posted March 27, 2012 Well, glad I asked. Some very cool info. I'll actually print of that VIN breakdown and keep it in the car. Thanks todfitch. Quote
