Hi To all, I Just joined the forum, but have been lurking for quite a while. Finally attained car of my dreams, 48 P15 Sp.deluxe coupe for the 3rd time. This one is all done. (well almost) if you know what I mean. I guess they are never all done. I know you purist's might cringe, but it is totally stock and original inside and out, with a SBC TH350 and Charger rearend. I performed the same swap about 10 yrs ago on another 48 coupe, but the body was so bad, I knew it would never be my dream car so I got rid of it along with 2 other compleate parts cars. ( Kicking myself now on that.) Any way I just wanted to say hi, and am looking forward to learning and sharing what little bit of knowledge I have with all, Thanks George (Homebrewer)

Thanks for the welcome Norm, I'm in the Central Valley of Calif. (Modesto). I've read quite a few of your posts, esp. the ones on front ends. IE Disc Brakes and dropped spindles. The front of my coupe sits just a little too high for my satisfaction. Thinking about either going with 14" front wheels of dropping the spindles. I'd like to get it 1-2" lower in the front, without cutting coils if possible. I've been drooling over 48 Plymouths for over 50yrs. After about a 10 yr search, finally found the one I wanted. Although I was looking at the Red Convert out of Utah on EBay last month, but it was just a little too pricey.

Mt. View here, by San Jose, Welcome. I have a 52 Plymouth, Lowered it a bit over 2 inches, and put on disc brakes in the front. I got these kits from plydo, but I think others on here may have sources too.

Does not look like this anymore, but the stance is the same.

Better than cutting coils, and cheaper than dropped spindles, is to take your coils to a springmaker and get him to reset them 2" lower while still maintaining the rebound rate. Worked just dandy for my 55, and cheap as chips.

Thanks for the tip on the springs. I'd love to post a picture, but I can't seem to figure it out. Apparently my file size exceeds the limit. I have a Mac. I tried reducing the picture size but that apparently doesn't work either. George

That might have been Norm's Coupe, the original Norm, posting about discs and stuff. I'm the other Norm. I dropped mine by cutting coils. Real happy with the results after cutting coils, new shocks, new radials and a good alignment. Should you decide to cut coils, I can share what I've learned by trial and error. 1 to 2 inches of drop can be done with coil cutting and still retain good handling. Probably not as good as dropped spindles but my whole cost was under $20, for the Harbor Freight 4" angle grinder.

Modesto, home of American Graffiti. There really is a Paradise Road up there, huh?

Welcome to the board Homebrewer.

I did change over to disc brakes and have made post regarding that. However, must have been someone else regarding the dropped spindles or cut springs to lower the car. Mine is still original height, haven't touched the springs or changed the spindles.

To post a picture you have to get the file size down below about 97 kbs. If your picture is still too large, you'll have to make it smaller again. Then you can post it. You'll have less trouble posting pictures if you get it between about 90 kbs and 95 kbs or less. To check the size before trying to post, just right click on your picture file name and check the properties of the file. It will tell you there how many KB's the picture is.

Try Imageshack, no registration, just a simple upload to their server, you can resize pics fairly easily. What I do is load my pics to the desk top then use the browse feature to link them to IS. Then you get a thumbnail. click on the thumbnail to open it in a new window, right click on the image and copy the url leaving off the http://. Then you can hit the button on the forum tool bar that looks like a postcard. You get a pop up, past your info there. Then to make sure it works either hit the preview post button or the go advanced button. This will let ou see hoe the post will look, if its OK then hit the submit button. Image shack can be found at;

Welcome aboard. You wont get no hard feeling regarding an engine swap here. My 46 Biz Coupe has a 56 engine with dual carbs and some other machine work.

Homebrewer,

If you click on my name at the top of this reply and select my public profile, you will see a picture of my 47 with dropped spindles in front, stock springs in back, and 60 series 15 inch tires all around.

I hope this works, here is a picture of of my P 15. I have since dropped the front by about 2 inches. I found that it had spring spacers in the front springs. I removed them and I am pleased with the stance now. Took it on its 1st 50 mile RT cruise and it performed flawlessly. I was a little concerned about eng temp with my old coupe since I was running basically the same setup, but this stayed right around 180 -190 on and 80 degree day." Very cool" (no pun intended) George
