If a vehicle is converted to 12v by a alternator it almost has to have a negative ground to the body and frame. I'm about sure of it. The radio in a 48 plymouth is powerd from possitive ground. Reducing 12v down to 6v isn't a problem and has many options to do so, but the possitive ground is a problem. Is the radio grounded by the box or does it have a possitive and negative leads out of it for power?

The radio is grounded through its case, but, and its a big but, I have found that the radio will work regardless of the polarity. I don't know if its good for it or not, but still, it seems to work. Apparently, there are no transistors or diodes in it that are polarity sensitive.

Yes, I think Neil is correct.

The tubes with work with either polarity.

That is interesting. I have always been told that the original radios were polarity sensetive. Thanks for the education.

Before I switched to 12V I ran a 6V negative ground alternator. I was told as long as I hadn't switched the radio to an electronic vibrator (which would be polarity-sensitive) that it would work fine, which it did.
