55 Fargo Posted January 22, 2012 Author Report Posted January 22, 2012 Nice grille bars, Fred. AFTER A WEEK OF 30 below, we have a Chinook rolling in, we are at freezing today (Sunday) and a week of above freezing and bright sunshine in store. Feels like summer!! Hi Pat, -3c or about 28f here right now, highs of about 34 this week, but hats it. We never did have quite the deep freeze you Guys had, but not far off, it went down to -28c or -16f here a couple nights.... Quote
chopt50wgn Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Rule of thumb is the object being painted should be the same temp as the air it's being painted in. I have a heated shop but I only turn the heat on when I am in it. Being that it is pretty well insulated, it doesn't get below 40 degrees. For the winter, I keep any and all paints in my house so they are not subjected to cold temps. I also have the part or parts I am going to paint in the house so they are also at room temp. When I am going to paint, I turn the heat on in the shop and take the paint and parts out to the shop and proceed to paint them in a 65 deg air temp. Since the parts and paint are also at room temp, they will dry well with no problems. Quote

A lot of the 2k products dry/cure with a chemical reaction. I do not keep all my solvents and paint in the house, they stay in the shop, and have gone below freezing with no issues. I do keep all fillers, glazes etc, in the house, do ot want that freezing.... Quote
48Dodger Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Looking good Rock.... Worry about you sometimes Tim....lol I've been waiting patiently to paint in my booth this last week...need at least 55 degrees for good atomization, to fight coalescence and unseen condensation....among other things. Its been 45 degrees in the valley with a lot a wind and rain....this after most of the winter looking like spring....go figure. 48D Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) Here you go Bob, the 2 star General, Fargo. Interesting how Canada got the name for Fargo trucks, when the name Fargo, is totally American, with Fargo ND, Wells Fargo etc. The name Fargo has no history in Canada, other than the trucks, and shoppers from Winnipeg, driving to Fargo ND on weekends.... 55 Fargo Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) Hey all, pieced together some exhaust pipe and an old muffler I had laying around here. It makes it run much quieter, this of course is just a temporary thing, although it is put on securely. Here is a short video of the truck running.... Edited January 27, 2012 by Rockwood Quote
knighthawk Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Fred, you mentioned at the beginning of this thread, there may be some 'concerns' over if the paint gets 'frozen' and still any good. I may have paint 'frozen' and still worked.... I ad about 5 gallon cans of barn paint left over, sat in the back of the barn ( unheated arera) for about 3 years, when I came to use it, it was hard as a rock, the dealer told me it was cause it had gotten frozen.........Maybe we could get an experianced answer here from someone ?????????? Maybe Tim?? Quote

Maybe Tim?? Latex yes, never had a problem with enamel paint that has been in below freezing temps , had many paints in unheated buildings, including rattle cans that worked fine when warm again. Would not leave body fillers in below freezing temps though..... Quote
knighthawk Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 makes sense.....the barn paint was latex...thanks Quote
