55 Fargo Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Hi all, cannot seem to get the horn to work, I have verified the horn wire in sterring column is good, horn ring in good clean condition. I have a non stock single horn, and the 3 terminal stock Mopar relay. I have the hot to to center for battery, the horn ring wire to S terminal, and the Horn wired to H terminal. I get a tiny bit of clicking, there is power to B terminal, and power to S terminal on the relay at all times, and no power to H terminal, at any time, even when horn ring is pushed to ground circuit. Is this relay fried or what, I am running a 12 volt system, but have never used it on the horn. I have bench tested horn, it works well on the bench. Any ideas??? For those that may advise a search, I have done all of the searching on this forum, and on google. I have tested the circuit, and changed things around, is this relay gone bad???? Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Try grounding the S terminal on the relay. That should bypass the horn ring and contacts. Quote

55 Fargo Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 Try grounding the S terminal on the relay. That should bypass the horn ring and contacts. Same result, just clicking Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 try clicking this... http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=30040 Quote
55 Fargo Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 try clicking this...http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=30040 Thats great Tim, and good thread, have read it. When the relay is powered, wire from bat to B terminal on relay, the horn wire from steering wheel goes to S terminal, the horn itself is going to H terminal. Now I have power at the B terminal, and and without touching the horn button on steering wheel, I also have power at S terminal on relay at all times. When I press horn button, I here the relay clicking, but never do I get power to the H terminal, that supplies the horn. So is this relay bad, why woould the B and S terminals both have power to them, without horn being touched, is this correct or is it a matter of BS. When the horn button on wheel is pressed it grounds the circuit, and the H terminal should get juice, it does not, is that a BS terminal thing<<<<<<<< Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) may sound stupid but no where have you stated that the horn will sound with direct power applied....how about some voltage readings...the horn is not necessary a good tool for testing a circuit..you could have a serious voltage drop there and horn would never work due to being unable to draw the necessary amperage...takes quite a bit of juice to blast these suckers..single or dual.. start making some tests you can bank on... The horn is working great with direct supplied current, mentioned in first post, but on the bench. The voltage to relay is 12+ volts, when you press the horn button, the S terminal, power goes out as it is grounding, but does not power the H terminal with the lead to horn, so is this a relay problem, as my steering wheel button appears to ground the cicuit, and test light goes ou on the S terminal, but it does not switch power to the H terminal on the relay, that goes to the horn 1 Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Jumper from the B terminal to the H terminal. That will bypass the relay. Horn blows, relay problem-doesn't blow, horn ground problem. Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) Jumper from the B terminal to the H terminal. That will bypass the relay. Horn blows, relay problem-doesn't blow, horn ground problem. Will try Dave, but as I stated test light will not light on H terminal, with horn button pushed down. I will go check, most likely the relay gone south.....thanx Fred Just did the test, horn rings loud and clear when B terminal is jumped to the H terminal, indicating a faulty relay....thanx Fred wil get another relay and see what happens, horn sounds good.... 55 Fargo Posted December 2, 2011 Author Report Posted December 2, 2011 Yup, horn relay was fried, installed a new used Mopar 12 volt relay, horn works great. I found it in an old wiring harness, want to use the fuse panel pictured, in this truck..... Quote
