BobT-47P15 Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 Here's a copy of the email sent out by Robin regarding his "Rhythm Riot" event he puts on each year around Thanksgiving. Just in case you'd like to attend - it's in England. Lots of Rockabilly and oldies music, period clothing worn by many participants, some old cars - a generally good time. I have no vested interest in this event, but Robin and his wife are cool folks.....and I'd love to go sometime. Just thought some of the newer members might find this info interesting. Here's a link to his website for the event: http://www.rhythmriot.com/bands Hi Everyone, Just 7 days to go, and the excitement is mounting! Here's some more great news... On Sunday, there will be an exact replica of the 1966 Batmobile on display at the Barris Custom Car Show, in the hall near the supermarket. George Barris, who built the original, will be at the Car Show on Saturday and Sunday, alongside a collection of 8 amazing, freshly-restored, 1960s and 70s show cars, and a fantastic 'work-in-progress' custom 1950 Mercury. George will also be giving a DVD presentation and holding a Q&A session in the Lunars Bar on Saturday at 12.30pm. And he will be holding a 'Signing of the Cars' on Saturday, from 2pm. This really is a unique opportunity to meet a legend. Quote
randroid Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 Bob, I recall the event from years gone by and it's always struck me as something I'd like to attend. Hopefully he'll post a video of it again this year. -Randy Quote
Robin (UK) Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Thanks Bob. The Rhythm Riot is quite special. There are about a dozen people travelling from the USA this year to attend. And others from Russia, Australia (which, for us, is half way round the world) and hundreds from all across Europe. There's an amazing passion for the event. We're bringing several bands in from overseas and can recommend a couple to you lucky people in the USA... Any of you guys on the West Coast might like to check out Lil Mo & The Dynaflos from LA. They sing doowop. Real old-school style... Also, from Chicago, JD McPherson, with an amazing blend of blues and rockabilly. Hugely talented, his CD 'Signs and Signifiers' is highly recommended. There's an incredible buzz about his first UK show... I can't wait! Quote
Robin (UK) Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 (edited) I just received this nice picture from the Rhythm Riot cruise. You can just see part of Deano's green P15 sedan behind the Chevy truck. The photo was taken in Rye, where many of the buildings date from the 15th Century. It's an amazing place. The second picture is me with George Barris. Edited December 16, 2011 by Robin (UK) Quote
JohnTeee Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I had the pleasure of meeting Robin in 2008 and being driven around downtown London in his beautiful vert. Anybody care to send me, for a sentimental journey? Cheers! John Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 17, 2011 Author Report Posted December 17, 2011 Some of us ole Missouri boys get around......and manage to have a pretty good time. I'd love to go to that show also, the music is phonominal with acts appearing from several countries. They always try to get older American performers like Clarence "Frogman" Henry, Ray Sharpe, and others. Quote

Robin (UK) Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Sonny played our Rhythm Riot in 2010. It's always a pleasure to welcome the originators. Quote
