The rubber top to my screw adjusted hood stops has melted. Does any one know what tread count and diameter these are?

Silly question how do you measure this? do most people have a guage or something. typically i got to the hardware store and use the trial and error approach, but thats hard to do as a mail order.

You can purchase a thread and pitch gage. The guys that did a lot of lathe and metal work always had these in their tool kits.

The gage will have various stand threads and pitchs that you pull out just like a feller gage. You match up the bolt thread by trial and error until you find the one that fits into the thread perfectly or as best can fit. They are pretty accurate.

Do you have a tap and die set? Most have a screw pitch gauge included it the set. Harbour Freight currently have this one on sale for twelve bucks. For a beginner this should be a must own.

Next thing you need is a caliper. Same place has this one for three bucks.

Once you see the usefulness of these tools you can step up and buy the best.
