All the truck fuel senders I've ever seen secure with a 3-tab lock ring. This is fairly common in the industry. My own Dodge is a '48, and this is how it is arranged. The larger truck tanks I have dropped all have similar arramgements. LOL

Like GB my 48 truck has the 3 tab lock ring also my 60 d300 and my 52 suburban all have the lock ring not sure when they switched over but I would guess you truck also has the lock ring

The trucks that I have seen here in Oz seemed to have changed from the 3 tab lock ring type to the screw in type when they changed from 6V to 12V (sometime around 1953?).
