greg g Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) I just crunched the numbers for fuel usage and miles driven on our trip to Vermont. I travelled 974 miles and used 49.6 gallons of gasoline, my calculator says thats 19.6 mpg. This with a full trunk most of the time. I added 1/2 qt of oil during the trip. Me happy, with my hot rod motor, and apparently my 4.11 rear is made for VT hills. OPPS made a mistake see follow up post, still smilage but not quite as high as above. oldodge41 Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 That sounds like real good mileage. What was average speed of the majority of your driving? What all is done to your engine? Quote
Mark D Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 Yeah the guy that was chasing you up those hills can attest. Very decent numbers for sure Greg. Hoping I can tune my stocker to get better than the 12-13mpg I was getting. Still so much to learn. Quote
greg g Posted August 5, 2011 Author Report Posted August 5, 2011 my engine is a 230 from a 56 Plymouth, it has about 8K on a rebuild that included a .030 overbore, .050 total milling of the head and deck, (040/010) dual carbs on a Fenton intake, stock cam, stock exhaust manifold with the heat flap welded closed to the carb, 2 in ID exhaust through a Dynomax turbo flow muffler. We were running what the traffic and roads would bear, probably in the 45 to 55 range except in town. rear tires are 225 75 15's. Oh Oh big ooops. I remembered on Friday when I ran out of gas, I put in a gallon and then went back and put an additional 9 gallons in, and that reciept was not in my pile. So a recalculation, with 59.6 gallons used equals 15.8 mpg which upon reflection is still good for stuff in the trunk, and hills and spirited driving. Quote
randroid Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 Greg, I think it is all simply explained in one word: Karma. You have put enough time and effort this summer alone into promoting shows, etc, that perhaps WPC was smiling down on you and nudging you the best he could. -Randy Quote
yourpc48 Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 I dont know the history on the engine in my P15 but combined highway and around town driving and also a steep 1/4 ish mile hill going up to my house, I get almost 15 mpg. I dont have an interior in my car as far as door panels, carpet, and headliner but I do know the way the car is now it weighs in at a surprising 3500ish lbs. With me in it (I weigh about 265) Wow my MOPAR is a heavy car!!! Quote
