Guest fordodgeconnections Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Anyone know the length of the oil dip stick on the 48 flathead? Thanks... Quote
greg g Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Apparently there were several lengths available depending on application. some go through a hole in th e block and some truck, industrial applications go through a tube soldered into the oil pan. Also some had tubes inserted into the hole in the block and some inserted directly into the block. So none of this information really helps does it. Do you have a block with a tube, or just a hole near the distributor???? Quote
claybill Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 greg g had it right...i have experienced all kinds of dip stick situations......now i just run the stick down to the 'clank' at he bottom of the pan ...and go from there. bill Quote
Reg Evans Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Is yours missing Dan ? If so you can buy an adjustable one at the auto parts store. Drain your old oil and fill with the proper amount and then set the new stick to read full. Quote
Guest fordodgeconnections Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 This one has a tube in the oil pan. Quote
Guest fordodgeconnections Posted April 5, 2007 Report Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks Reg, I purchased one I don't think was adjustable. I cut it some, but it seems to be a bit long. How many quarts does the engine take? I finished painting the frame today. I will start to take the bed off the trailer tomorrow. Its going to be cool to see it all together. Another cool thing is that I have been driving around Julian a bit. Took the dog for a ride, think he kinda wanted to jump out from all the shaking as we headed down the road. Not sure we will be able to break 45mph anytime soon. The engine sounds real good, just a bit gutless in 3rd. I will send some new pics once the bed is on. Quote
