I recently bought a '48 Special Deluxe 4door Sedan and it needs a shift linkage.

Does anyone know:

1) Where would I find one of these...on the internet or other somewhere else?

2) How involved is the installation?

Thanks for helping out the new guy! :D

I have a parts car with complete linkage. What parts of the linkage do you need? Just the part attached to the tranny? The shifter on the steering column? PM or email if interested.

Dave at Fat Fendered Relics is a great guy and nice to deal with. If Robert doesnt have what you need Dave may have it. I got a 48 D24 from him years ago and got the rear window channels for my recent 47 P15.

Robert: The car is still at it's previous owner's house due to it haveing 4 flat tires. I'm going to "visit" it to put 2 tires on it this week and I'll crawl under it and see what part it needs. The previous owner just told me it needed a shift linkage so I'm trying my best to locate one before so I can fix it when I get it back to my place.

OK, just PM or email when you know what you want.

Sounds like that car could use anywhere from one piece to the entire

setup. Only an inspection will tell.

There are only two rods going from the steering column back to the

trans, as I recall.

The most likely failure spot is the rubber grommet on the firewall side of the column.

Very true, Ed. That thing can be a pain to replace.

It turns out that the rubber gromet WAS the problem but now that I have taken it off and pressed in a new one, I can't seem to get the linkage back in to the proper orientation with both the column and the hole it connects to below

Does anyone have a picture of it's orientation on the car? I've looked at many diagrams and it seems that I had it in the proper position but it would never line up with both connections at the same time...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated because this has me truely stumped!

Where did you get your grommet? Mine is deteriorated to the point that my shift lever pops out from time to time.

Is it the same part that Steele has listed as a steering grommet?

Have a tranny removed, rebuilt, installed with a new clutch, and one would expect that the rubber grommet would be replaced too, but he's also the same guy that stole the nut off my harmonic balancer and told me that the balancer needed to be replaced. If I hadn't moved several hundred miles away before I figured that one out, he probably would have gotten kicked some where tender.

I bought mine off ebay.

I was afraid of that. I was hoping some one had a new replacement. I've been looking on eBay, but not having much luck. Makes me more interested in going with a T5 rather than an R10 upgrade.

This is the thread where I found the seller before. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=23917&highlight=shift+bushing

They were selling reproduction ones. Not too much money either I think 7 bucks. However the auction link in that thread is no longer valid and I can't remember the name of the company.

Found it. The seller doesn't have any currently listed but I found one via completed listings. Here is their email krusn64@aol.com Current auction showed 8.50 for the part.
