buds truck Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 spent today stripping 6 coats of paint off the truck. Not done, but ran out of 80 grit DA paper... Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 Are you giong to leave the fuel tank in the cab or fill the fuel tube hole ? Quote
buds truck Posted May 29, 2011 Author Report Posted May 29, 2011 just came in from the shop for a break, gonna go back out in a few and fill the hole. I have a Mustang gas tank in the rear of the dakota frame. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 looks good, nothing like stripping that old lead paint off....watch the dust though Quote
Dave72dt Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Seeing all that bright shiny steel makes me feel sorry for the air compressor. Can't wait to see it in primer and paint. Quote
buds truck Posted May 30, 2011 Author Report Posted May 30, 2011 I know, in the words of Scotty from star trek... " she can't take much more of this captain, shes gonna blow"! I actually have a very large compressor that seems to take the use quite well. I have had it for about 15 - 20 years. Quote
PatS.... Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Looking good, Bud. The dash is a neat touch. Quote
Desotodav Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Looking good Bud. I remember those days well. Check out this link if you want to see what we went through with the re-build of my 51 Desoto truck... http://gallery.oldholden.com/Streetneat/album73/Davins+Desoto/ Desotodav Quote
buds truck Posted May 30, 2011 Author Report Posted May 30, 2011 great build Dave, I won't be going quite that deep with mine, but she will be a fun ride for the wifey!! It seems she "adopted" it as soon as I brought it home.... she walked around it twice, started back to the house, turned her head to me and said "you know your building that for me don't you?" I said "I do now"....... Quote
Desotodav Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Sounds like your wifey is a good sport Bud. Mine usually makes some sort of comment when I bring another truck home - but I'm down to 4.5 trucks now! My wifey said that she will drive one if I can fit it with power steering and make it an auto. I can't see that happening. Good luck with your re-build mate. It looks like you're doing well. buds truck Posted May 31, 2011 Author Report Posted May 31, 2011 wifey wants power steering and brakes too. thats why it will sit on a dakota frame. Quote
raidmagic Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Looks good. I like that dash that's cool. Quote
Dave72dt Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Mine is being set up so anyone driving it will feel comfortable doing so. Should ride and drive as nicely as a new one. Wifey won't drive it much, she likes her convertible and we both do 4wd in the winter. Quote
Dan Babb Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Looks good. Kinda wish i had the space to have pulled my cab off when i started my project. Quote
