47heaven Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 My NOS speedometer guage was recently installed and the needle tends to bounce back and forth slghtly as I am accelerating. When it gets to about 40 rpm, it stops. The cable is new, so that's ruled out. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I assume you did pre lubrication on your NOS speedometer. The oil cup on the side needs lubrication. Quote
47heaven Posted March 30, 2007 Author Report Posted March 30, 2007 Don...was I supposed to do that? Just joking...we lubed it before it was installed because it didn't turn freely. Quote
Don Coatney Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 I would just drive it and see what happens after a few thousand miles. Quote
norrism1 Posted March 30, 2007 Report Posted March 30, 2007 Cable (square inside piece) should be greased to prevent needle bounce. Not much needed, just a dab in your palm and slid it through as you insert into the cable down to the tranny. Quote
47heaven Posted March 31, 2007 Author Report Posted March 31, 2007 Man, it was sure great seeing that NOS speedo gauge change colors as I was driving. Since I can only get to 50 MPH (at least, that's as far as I'm pushing it, for now) it only changed to a yellow color, but the two colors (green and yellow) are pretty brilliant. I'm going to wait and see if the bounce goes away, as a result of the grease getting all the way through. Quote
1just4don Posted March 31, 2007 Report Posted March 31, 2007 I have heard of that here before,,,just wondered what years DID change colors,,,and what year did they quit doing that?? Quote
Young Ed Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 I know the 39 dad had was supposed to. It had a little eye in the needle that should have changed. Quote
