that econoline reminds me of an incident working at the Dodge dealer as a kid.

One of my jobs was to do the occasional run to the scrap yard with stuff from the service and body shops. they had a longer e200 like the one shown. Ford in their coprprate wisdome lengthend the van by adding an 18 to 29 inch section of body behind the rear wheels. Well some of the mechanics have loaded the truck with a couple of 50 gallon drums of old oil filters, several enginne blocks some transmissions and some sheetmetal and front crossmembers from the body shop. The drums of oil filters were loaded last and the rear doors were shut.

Now the van was usually over loaded and the sagging springs were no surprise as the parts guy tossed me the keys to make the trip. As we were going to a couple warehouses to pick up new parts onthe way home, the parts assistant grabbed the keys from me and jumped intot he drivers seat.

I got in next to him and we started off. He was a drag racer and was forever practicing his starts in his mind. So he pulled out of the lot onto US route 11 and punched the gas.

The mighty ford 200 cubic inch 6 gave all it had and the van took off, however the load slid backward against the rear doors, the front wheels came off the ground, and the shifted weight held the van in its little red wagon pose standing onthe rear wheel and rear bumper even as it came to a grinding halt. Glad i let him grab the keys as he got at least three tickets not to mention the crap he took from everyone at the dealership for his stunt driving.

It took about 40 minutes to uload the van, get down on all fours and reloaded in a bit more balanced manner, after which we proceeded on out trip with me driving is a somewhat less spirited manner....
