RobertKB Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I mentioned on another thread that I was installing some old amber fog lights as signal lights on my '38 Chrysler and that I would post pictures when done. I have the job completed and am pleased with the results. Lots more indication that I am turning and it gives the front of the car a more old-time look. First picture shows the the signal lights I replaced and the rest show the fog lights installed. These are sealed beam and I hope they stand up to the rigors of blinking on and off. They are probably hard to replace as they are 6 volt and an unusual size. Anyway..................... Quote
1940plymouth Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Nice addition, I hope they work out for you Quote
1937 Dodge Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I have been using a similar turn signal setup on my '37 MC for the past three years (12 volt after market sealed beam fog lamps). Feel a lot safer with this setup. Looks more original that sticking other signal lights on. So far no problems with bulbs or signal equipment. Quote
55 Fargo Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Lights look good Rob, would like a pair of fog lights just for day time running lights on my car.... Quote
RobertKB Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) Lights look good Rob, would like a pair of fog lights just for day time running lights on my car.... Yes, we have come to like and got used to DRL's in Canada. I still drive my old cars with the lights off but maybe it is time I started turning the lights on while driving. It certainly makes it easier to see other cars in your peripheral vision. Motorcyles are much more visible, too. I just worry I will forget to turn them off when parked and come back to a flat battery. The new cars automatically turn off. Edited May 14, 2011 by RobertKB Grammar Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Would it be feasible to hook the headlights up so the ignition switch turns them off and on? Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Would it be feasible to hook the headlights up so the ignition switchturns them off and on? Yes it can be done by using a relay. Quote
james curl Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 The DRL on my Chevy burn at a lower intensity than when they are manually turned on. At night the difference becomes obvious when after starting the car you then manually turn on the rest of the lights and the headlight become brighter. It would be nice if you could reduce the load on the electrical system if you plan on running with the head lights on all of the time. That is asking a lot from a low amperage generator. Quote
