plymouthasc Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Was there a special cap on the end of the coil wire at the coil end? I have one of the screw in type connectors. I wasn't sure if I should just fold the wire over as shown in the photo or if there was some kind of cap that should be soldered to the end. Your thougths? Thanks! Quote
Fluid drive Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 All of the originals that I have seen ( the older models that had firewall mounted coils ) were like that. Usually the wires were spread around the protruding brass end instead of being left in one bundle. If any sort of a cap was ever used I'd like to know about too! FLuid Drive Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 If you are saying that your coil accepts the screw in type connector that you show in your picture, then what you have should work. If however, you have the more standard type of coil, there are end caps that press on the end of the coil wire. I'm sure these can be bought at most auto supply stores. Quote

I fan out the wires around the whole threaded cap. I do have an aftermarket coil on the shelf that uses a more modern press in connection like you find on the distributor cap but I think all the original had the screw on connectors. Quote

plymouthasc Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks everyone for your feedback. I will proceed with it as shown. Quote
RobertKB Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Mark, I am just to confirming what others have indicated. I believe what you have is right for the car. I have a 1941 Canadian Dodge D21 which is the same body as the '41 Plymouth but with Dodge trim. I could not figure out why the coil wire would not come out of the distributor until I started turning it. I have included a couple of pictures and the coil wire is exactly the same as the one you pictured. Quote
plymouthasc Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Thanks for the confirmation and photos. The '41 Plymouth coupe body was actually built by Dodge. It has a Dodge Body Number Tag and the build sheet I got from Chrysler for the car clearly says Body by Dodge. It makes sense that your car would be similar. Thanks again! Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Mark, you might take time to list what make and model car you have at the lower left of your posting screen, on the upper right, or on your profile page. I personally did not recall what vehicle you have, so I didn't know if the coil wire was right or not. Obviously some others must have known. Just a thought.......... Quote
plymouthasc Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Thanks. I couldn't find the signature editor. I found a post from the administrator that signatures are not enabled. I added the car to my location as you suggested. Quote
