I've searched through my factory shop manual, and through the archives here on the site and can't seem to come up with the number for re-torquing the pinion nut.

I didn't think to measure the distance between the top of the threaded portion of the pinion, and the factory torqued nut....then I could have re-set it to the exact depth and been done with it.

The reading I've done it seems that the nut is part of the pre-load for the front pinion bearing? It looks to me that you want about .003-.008 end play after the nut is tightened....did I read this right?

Or is it just a good tightening on the nut and install the cotter pin and your done, since the factory shims set the end play?
