thrashingcows Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 I've searched through my factory shop manual, and through the archives here on the site and can't seem to come up with the number for re-torquing the pinion nut. I didn't think to measure the distance between the top of the threaded portion of the pinion, and the factory torqued nut....then I could have re-set it to the exact depth and been done with it. The reading I've done it seems that the nut is part of the pre-load for the front pinion bearing? It looks to me that you want about .003-.008 end play after the nut is tightened....did I read this right? Or is it just a good tightening on the nut and install the cotter pin and your done, since the factory shims set the end play? Quote
