P-12 Tommy Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Just replace the float. There's bound to be someone here that has a spare float. It wouldn't hurt to try. Tom Quote
flattiefreak Posted April 26, 2011 Author Report Posted April 26, 2011 I inspected the float again and did not hear any sloshing. I fixed the problem. The float was binding on one of the walls of the carb. A little adjusting and she runs good.. Now I just need to clean the plugs and change the oil. thanks for all the help. Quote

Jim Saraceno Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 I did hear a small amount of sloshing, but i really dont know if the amount I heard would make a difference. If there is ANY sloshing, the float has a leak in it and it needs to be replaced. If not, you'll have these same problems in the future. Quote
desoto1939 Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 You stated that you had an electric fuel pump. Do you also have the mechanical fuelpump on the car? Were you running the car and driving the car allthe time when the electric fuel pump was running? What electrci fuel pump were you using. remember these electric fuel pumps will pump gas up into the carb continuously. They do not cut off when the bowel is full. You might want to put a pressure regulator onthe line and also might want to put a bypass line to send the unsed gas back to the gas tank. I only use my electric pump as a spare to pumpgas up to the carb after the car has sat for a while. I have a feeling that trying to run the car with the electric and also mechnaical pump is the issue. It sounds as if when you did ot use the electric the issue was solved so that is the issue of when are you using the electric pump vs using both electric and mechanical? Reg Evans Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 If I am going to be replacing anything, I figure I should just replace the entire carb.. Is there any alternatives to the Carter carbs? Ive heard of weber carbs, but dont know how good they are. What is out there that would be worth using?thanks I have used Rochester 1 bbls found on Chevy's of the same vintage before. They bolt right up if I remember correctly. Quote
flattiefreak Posted April 27, 2011 Author Report Posted April 27, 2011 I was running a mr. gasket micro electric pump with the mechanical one. I have completely removed the electric one for now. I will add a switch and only use the electric pump if the car sits for a while. Since I replaced the filter, removed the pump, and readjusted the float, everything seems to be just fine. thanks Quote
