I am having some difficulties with the 265 in my Windsor. I took it to Walmart the other night and when I came back out I smelled gas and the engine acted like it was flooded. The car is a little hard to start but that may be due to the cold temps we have been having all week.

On the couple warm days we have had since I got the car it has not been too much trouble starting cold but is even worse once it is warmed up. I think the gas is percolating but am not sure how to fix it. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Is the base of the carb near the throttle plate pivot wet when this happens????

It usually take quite high ambient temps for perculation to occur. But a dirty needle ad seat, a high float level or a leaking float can cause similar symptoms.

If the float is leaking, it will lose bouyancy and therefor not shut the needle allowing the float chamber to over fill and flow raw fuwl down the carb. This will puddle on the closed throttle plate and some usually seeps out the pivit pin wettig the outside of the carb base and the top off the intake manifold. this may not be a problem while running, but the residual pressure in teh fule pump line will try to keep the bowl overfull, and empty the line fromt he pump to the carb, leading to hard starts, initially from flooding, the perhaps a spell of rough running while the pump refills the line to the carb.

My 2 cents, Pull the carb off and have it rebuilt. Odds are good you have a bunch of gunk built up in the bowl, the accelerator pump is eaten up by the newer fuel and the float and seat are not set correctly. You can buy a kit or send it off to George Asche 814 354 2621.. Better than new and you will wake that 265 up!!!!

Thanks guys. I think I may just look for a rebuild kit and see if that fixes it. It's too cold right now but I think they are calling for it to get up into the 50's tomorrow so maybe I can get back to work on it.
