PatS.... Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) These "old" cars worked just as hard as modern trucks back in the day. PHOTO FROM SHORPY.COM http://www.shorpy.com/node/9571?size=_original Edited January 20, 2011 by PatS.... Quote
49 Dodge Dude Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Oh man, I love those old photographs! I like looking at the landscape too - the old signs (like the Texaco sign) and shops you just don't see anymore. Beautiful. Quote
Frank Ollian Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Think it has one of those clamp on hitches? Quote
pflaming Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 I would doubt U-Haul would let one put a trailer that size on that car today! Cool picture. Nice red Merc or Ford convertable in the background. Quote
TodFitch Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 I hope that trailer has brakes. I'd hate to try stopping that rig! I was going to say it was taken in Virginia based on the "Old Dominion Cleaners" in the background. But clicking through the link I don't have to guess. The poster says it was taken in Alexandria, Virginia by his grandfather. Looks like a California tag on the trailer. If so, the move from Virginia to Florida by that family was only a little of the long distance traveling it did. Quote
John Reddie Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 Ah yes. I sure remember those days fondly. I was fourteen in '56 and we used to pick up '30s and '40s cars in good roadworthy condition for under $50.00. That year I had a '39 Buick $28.00, a '36 Plymouth R/S seat coupe $25.00 and a '34 Chev '10.00. Gone but definitely not forgotten. John R Quote
