55 Fargo Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Hey you Guys south of the 49th parallel, looks to be Colorado lows have been torturing even southern locales with old fashioned winter snow. I see that it appears every state in the lower 48 (except Florida), has some snow. Now this is typical of Canada, but you Guys. I do see the Great Lakes are mostly Ice Free, this will contribute to Lake effect snow in the applicable States. I also noticed part of Hudson Bay is open water, that is strange for mid January. Here is the latest NOAA snow map of North America. Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Fred, Here in our part of the western Catskills we got 5-6 inches of snow, but in Danbury, Conn which is two hours east of here they got well over two feet. In the past two snow storms we have roughly ten inches of snow on the ground. Quote

louie the fly Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Just wondering, if you had 6" of snow as opposed to say 3" of rain what differences would there be? I live in South Australia & we only get a few flakes a year at Mount Lofty (about 15km west and 410m toward the sun from my house). We did get 50mm back in August 96 or 97. Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 They say an inch of rain equals a foot of snow Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 It must be the global warming effects.... They are calling it Climate Change now. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 one could theorize that the continued shift of the Earth's magnetic poles have led to the beaching of marine life, birds falling from the sky, massive fish kills right down to the ice I had on my lawn just this past week.. Quote
