1940plymouth Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 I need this gasket for my engine. I called NAPA, they said their books don't go back that far, called Pro-Antique Auto Parts, they don't have, Called Roberts, they have it for a dollar, but need a mininum twenty five dollar order, so out of luck I am so far. My question, How many years did Plymouth use the same set up as the one on my engine? I know they used basically the same engine until 1959 in the cars. I was surprised at the answer I got from NAPA, but I don't think the counterman wanted to be bothered dusting off the old books Any help would be greatly appreciated on this matter, Bob Quote
littlemo Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Try using the "search" function at the top of the page (right hand side); you might find some info there. Sorry I can't help other than that... Edited January 11, 2011 by littlemo Quote

Jim Yergin Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Bob, If it will help, on my '41, the exhaust flange has a short length of pipe above it that fits into the manifold. I found an exhaust donut gasket with an inside diameter to fit around the pipe and used that as my gasket. I just went into the parts store with the dimension I needed and they found one for me. P-12 Tommy Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Bob, Just in case your PM isn't working, I have the gasket you need NAPA #60146. Let me know. Tom Edited January 11, 2011 by P-12 Tommy Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 I called Antique Auto Parts Cellar, the lady there said she had one, but said to find it locally as it would cost more to send it than the gasket cost. She gave me the Felpro part number, I called NAPA and lo and behold, they will have it this afternoon. Just for future referance, the Felpro Part number is #60146 Thanks for all the help, I haven't gotten your PM yet Tom Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) I had it in an envelope ready to go just in case. Tom Edited January 11, 2011 by P-12 Tommy Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 11, 2011 Author Report Posted January 11, 2011 Tommy, Just got back from NAPA, got two of them just for giggles. a whole four dollars and eight cents. Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it, and thanks again everyone for the replies Bob Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Glad it worked out for ya. Tom Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 12, 2011 Author Report Posted January 12, 2011 Yes, me too. It is all apart now, just have to clean the exhaust manifold area of the old blown out gasket, and I want to get two new bolts, nuts and washers before I install the new gasket. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Bob, that gasket "flat" is the same all the way up to 1953 NAPA has it because as you know I just fixed my heat riser. True it only cost about 1.50 if you go back just ask for one for a 1952 plymouth or dodge. Quote

Andydodge Posted January 16, 2011 Report Posted January 16, 2011 Can anyone confirm that the same exhaust/intake gasket will fit up to the last of the 230's, ie 1959?.........thanks, andyd Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 16, 2011 Author Report Posted January 16, 2011 Andy, On the package it says it fits 1934-1967 Chrysler products Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Installed last evening Quote
TodFitch Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Andy' date='On the package it says it fits 1934-1967 Chrysler products[/quote'] Might be... But the one that fits my 1933 is a NAPA FPG 8105 and the 1934 Plymouth uses the same gasket as the 1933. The NAPA online guide matches Chrysler part 679023 to NAPA FPG 60146. But the 1936-48 parts book only shows 679023 for the 1941-48 Plymouths (and a couple of earlier Plymouth trucks). Net result: the FPG 60146 might fit some 1935-40 Plymouths, but it might not. (I couldn't find a NAPA cross for the Chrysler number 683067 used during those years.) Quote
aero3113 Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Installed last evening What type of sealant did you use on it? Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Acousti/Seal exhaust system sealing compound Quote
41/53dodges Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 i love how people underestimate autozone! most of my parts for both trucks came from there. you just have to be a little creative as far as research Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 My problem with auto zone is their attitude that they know everything and you know nothing. Yet, you end up showing them how to do their job. Must not start rant. Quote
41/53dodges Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 it depends, i get pleasure from making people who think they know it all look as stupid as they are, sorry to be a dick about it, but its the truth. "attitude adjustments" can be fun, to the adjuster! Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Isn't the '40 and '41 exhaust manifolds the same? I put a NAPA #60146 flat gasket on mine and used no sealant and it's leak free. Tom Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 Tommy, I put the sealant on it as we had it in the garage, don't really know if it was necessary or not, but did it anyway Quote
