Roadkingcoupe Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Wiper Knobs Third in a series of Pictorial histories. As mentioned on an earlier thread: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=24690 There is a discussion on the correct wiper knob for a 1940 Plymouth. Although anything that fits will work, see if you can I.D. the knobs in the photo. Hint: only a couple are not MoPaR and the one currently on "40Plymouth" is pictured for reference. note:Young Ed and BobT-47P15 have already started the I.D. from the other post. T120 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 ..Just a guess, but I'm interested in the answer.I'll pick 2nd from top on the right.. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Many 40s Plymouths I've seen in salvage yards and such have a radio knob as a wiper knob. The plastic one probably broke due to exposure to sunlight, etc and was replaced by the handiest thing the owner could find. Quote

Roadkingcoupe Posted December 18, 2010 Author Report Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) In this photo of a 1940 Plymouth dashboard the chrome wiper knob looks out of place and is probably not correct for the year. A closer look and only the Cowl Vent/Ashtray and Radio knobs look original. The dashboard knobs, gearshift knob and the escutcheons look to be "sourced" from elsewhere. BobT-47P15 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Now, does anyone recall from a discussion a while back - which way does the 46-48 style knob point as original.....toward the front or the rear?? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 I think the escutcheons on Roadking's 40 Plymouths are originals but the plastic has been broken off. Quote

Jim Benjaminson Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 The round, tan knob is the correct wiper knob for the 1940 Plymouth. Quote
Jim Benjaminson Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 Just to clarify my other posting - the correct wiper knob for the 1940 Plymouth is the round, tan knob on the bottom row - third from the left in the photo - it has the knurling around the circumference and a rounded head. Jim Benjaminson Posted December 19, 2010 Report Posted December 19, 2010 O.K. - posting number three to answer some of the other questions. The photo of the 1940 dash has a chrome wiper knob - thats a radio knob. The radio in this car is incorrect - its an 801 or 802 from a P15 series, again with chrome knobs. The original had brown knobs like the wiper knob (only smaller) and the push buttons had a clear plastic covering that covered a tan piece of "paper" that had the radio station call letters on them. Door & window handles always pointed towards the rear of the door. The escutcheons appear to be correct but missing the plastic. The dash push-pull knobs are incorrect as to shape but are next to impossible to find. I also note this car has the accessory glove box lock - very rare, most cars simply had a tan plastic push button. If I remember correctly the glove box lock cost $1 when these cars were new - but a buck was a buck! Someone did a nice job of woodgraining that dash! Quote
