1940plymouth Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Our antique tractor club bought a shingle mill last month, just wanted to share the photos that I took of it this morning. It makes both shingles and slats for apple crates. Quote
Reg Evans Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Cool ! Are you going to hook it up to a one lunger hit and miss ? Quote
greg g Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 hey Bob look here. There is a link to a guy in W Seneca, (near Buffalo) who look like he may have some knowledge regarding that machine. http://www.owwm.com/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=11360 Here is a shot of his running, Looks like the slots on the flywheel are for dressing the sides and ends of the shigles after they are cut. Probably has rough surface. Quote
RobertKB Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 I love that old machinery. A very interesting project for your tractor club. Any plans to make it operational just for fun? Quote
greg g Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 This might come in handy as your folks go through the machine and it workings http://www.owwm.com/mfgindex/imagedetail.aspx?id=1307 here also http://www.owwm.com/mfgindex/imagedetail.aspx?id=1305 Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 18, 2010 Author Report Posted November 18, 2010 Greg, thanks for the links and photos. Bob, yes, they are working on it to get it operational, right now everything works, but they said it needs some bushings Reg, they were going to orginally use the clubs one lunger, but no clutch, so it will be belt driven off of one of the member's tractor Quote
greg g Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Looks like a familiar format on the forum. http://www.owwm.org/ Did you see the Dirty Jobs segment with Mike using a shingle mill??? Man that thing has a very high pucker factor when it running, let alone getting close up and personal as the operator. OSHA would have a field day with that thing today. I would be live those caused inuries by the thousands in their day. Let's all be carefull with that puppy!!!! Quote
