thrashingcows Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Well been working on getting Fernando cleaned up a bit. Got the trunk cleaned up some, popped open the gas tank, the sending unit is MIA, and I have about 2-3" of sand and rust in the tank. Mostly all cleaned up... Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 I have to gut anything with fabric on it since there is mold everywhere and it smells bad. So pulled the pass. side door panel. And found this inside the door....any idea what it is? Everything seems to work OK. And the 5 lbs of dirt and crud from the bottom of the door!! I assume that the rubber strip along the bottom of the door, under the door panel, was added by a previous owner? Sure I'll have more questions and gems as it comes apart further. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 That piece is part of the window roller mechanism. Keeps the window in the track. And that rubber strip is OEM. The door tapers slightly there and the rubber brings it back to flat for the door panel. The door panel uses longer clips at the bottom to go through the rubber. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Good answers, Ed. Is that DeSoto a one wire or two wire sending unit? Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 Good answers, Ed. Is that DeSoto a one wire or two wire sending unit? It's a 2 wire. And only one of the 5 screws holding it into place made it out whole. Quote
Bingster Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Do you play ABBA's "Fernando" while working on the car? Quote

55 Fargo Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I can relate, "been there", "done that", and am young enough to do it again.......LOL Quote
thrashingcows Posted November 16, 2010 Author Report Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks guys. This is another learning curve for me, since I've never worked on a car of this vintage before. I'm going to enjoy this! Quote
