old rat 49 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 (edited) Model 46 Heater the one with the four bladed and squirrel cage fan. Removed for cleaning and inspection. Motor runs a little rough, the rest of it looks quite restorable with the exception of the fan itself. Very rusty and broken/cracked blade. Anyone have a fan blade with/or without a functioning motor ? An off the wall question. If I could find a 12 volt heater fan unit would it function OK on 6 volts ? BobT-47P15 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Might perhaps run a little slow??? Quote
cwcars88 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 I ran a 12-volt heater in my 6-volt model "A" for several years with no problem, ran it on HI, when I changed to 12-volt I run it on LOW most of the time. Quote
greg g Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 most heater fans are run through switches with varialble resistance, to the out put is at reduced volts. My guess would be that the low speed probably puts out 6 V the mid range 8 or 9. So a 12 V fan should be ok running on the high speed setting from a 6 V switch. How about a set of fan blades from a comuter fan mounted on your motor. My motor was running eratically on 6 v. so I gave it some pb blaster and a shot of 12 V and it cleared up. I added some regular light machine oil and ran it on 6v, oiling and running it, through several cycles. It runs fine on 6 V now, but squeaks a bit on the low speed setting. Quote
old rat 49 Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 Motor isn't my main concearn. The rusted out fan blade is. Quote

Mark Haymond Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 By coincidence I just went through my model 36 (I think) heater. I think if you measure the shaft of the motor and the size of the blade you might google "where to buy a fan blade for a heater" and find http://www.blowerwheel.com/ I noticed they might have fans for bathroom exhaust fans which might be just the right size for you. Or take the one out of your microwave. Gotta be something available that will do the same job for a (?) 1/4 inch shaft. Quote
old rat 49 Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 Mrak & Greg. Thanks. May have to go that route but this fan has a squirrrelcage mounted to the back of the 4 blade fan. Shows a picture in the parts manual. Never have figured out how to post pics here. Quote
old rat 49 Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 Fan is in the center. One piece blade and squirrel cage. Thanks for the posting lesson. Quote

Frank Elder Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Fan is in the center. One piece blade and squirrel cage. Thanks for the posting lesson. Rat, if you step your camera setting up it will give you a better picture, sorry a bigger resolution.:)Good picture though! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 My fan only works on low right now. I took the switch out and cleaned it. I then reinstalld it and it worked well on low however no mid or high. If the motor works then it's got to be the switch right? I would change my switch but I have the one that lights up Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 31, 2010 Report Posted October 31, 2010 I think those heaters appear on ebay from time to time. Quote
