Got a "Plymouth Surprise" tonight

Last Saturday, we took the convert to the Maple Leaf Festival car show

at Carthage, MO, about 20 miles from here. They had somewhere around

500 cars.

The weather was just perfect for a show.

We got there a little late, parked, looked in the swap meet area,

looked at the cars, ate, visited with various folks, then left for

home at about 2:30.

Tonight (Thurs) I opened the garage door to take my guitar out to

the van as I play my music gig on Thursday nights. As the door was

opening, I saw a man walking thru the yard toward me with something

in his hand.

It was a neighbor from a block or so down the street and he was

kindly bringing me the trophy we won at that car show (which we left

prior to the trophy presentations). We didn't even think about winning

anything, just went for fun. It's participant judging by all the other

entrants - they give you a ballot listing the classes when you sign

in and pay up. (This show, the largest in our immediate area, only

charged $10 to enter.)

Much to our surprise, we got 3rd place in the Convertible class.

Ya just never know----

Nice trophy Bob. Good to see all the pics too. Reminds me of Carthage:)

Isn't that where you grew up, Moose??

Yeah, I went to high school there and lived just a little ways from the Vietnamese place where the car show was. Used to cruise the square, go to the Sonic, Taco Town... That's where I learned to love the flat 6's:)

Thanks Johnny. Most or all of that stuff either came from flea markets or

rummage sales. Just figure out some things you like that go with the age

of the car.

Not sure if it's good or bad, but I seem to have acquired enough period

knick knacks, I could make several different displays. The problem is

having time to attend enough shows to use them. :(

Here's one I like----"the picnic".......

Hi Rodney. Nah.......the guy lucked out and didn't have to listen to a

bass guitar solo.

I thought it was very nice of him to deliver the trophy.

Well, THAT explains why your car makes so much sense to me!

Thanks for all the kind words gentlemen.

When the car was first done, I was always hoping to win a trophy.

Did win some.....anywhere from first to 5th place.

Now it's been several years and I don't get too excited about those

awards. (The Mrs. has banished them to the garage where they can

collect dust in my territory.) However, it is nice to receive one on

occasion just to see that someone likes the car.

Only got to two shows and a couple cruise-ins this summer.

We did drive the convert over into Oklahoma, about 35 miles from

here last Sunday to be spectators at a show on the banks of

Grand Lake O' The Cherokees (usually referred to as simply Grand

Lake). Took another couple with us.....a great day for a top down

drive. After the show, we motored on up to Miami, Oklahoma to eat

and try our luck at a casino. Drove about 100 miles total.

That building in the background is actually a casino, it's covered with

a fabric, but it doesn't show on the inside. Called Buffalo Run casino

in Miami, OK.
