So I ordered a "piston assembly and I got a piston and the pin. So where do I get the clips that hold it in? I have a 230 P26 engine if that makes a difference.

I can call hopefully they have them as they arent listed. Anyone know the part number for the double spiral locks? Seems to be the reccomended clips.

Where did you get your "piston assembly"? It should have come with retainer clips. You might want to go back to them. The clips should match the piston.

Andy Bernbaums. I asked when I ordered he said he didn't know. Oh well not listed on either sight I checked before posting. So I guess I call both. Any other locations?

Why should you spend more money on something you should already have? If it were me I would return the pistons as they are incomplete. Find another piston vendor. My guess is you will also get a better price.

Now for something completely different.

I've heard a lot about HD riders getting rid of the piston pin clips and using a teflon button to hold the pins in place. The rationale being that broken clips were causing significant damage and the teflon buttons lasted a long time without causing any wear in the cylinders.

Just an idea.

Way back when we experimented with different pin buttons on a 10 second doorslammer that I wrenched on. We abandoned teflon after the second time that they distorted enough to turn sideways and punch out a cylinder wall. Aluminum ones never had that problem for us.

I only know of the two. Bernbaums and VPW. Bernbaums was cheaper.

VPW $177 for piston and pin sold seperate (No clip)

Bernbaums $165 for "piston and pin assembly" No mention of clip

VPW sells them with there pistions. Leary of selling just the clips due to possible design differences. Makes sense.

Bernbaums just doesn't have them. So with return shipping, hassle etc etc. I guess I will talk with my machine shop and let them have a shot at either getting them or at minimum giving me the size I need and getting these. I have heard of a few problems with the stock clips. So maybe this will be the ticket. I do agree Don they should have came with it.

http://www.embeeperformance.com/pdf/CP_Accessories.pdf I like the spiral lock ones.

Have you ever read the information on the main web page that supports this forum? Here is a link to the links section.

You will find several vendors of Mopar flathead engine parts. I personally have had good luck with Terrill Machine.

Are the pistons you need oversized?

When I had the machining done on my engine the machine shop sourced the pistons and rings for me too. As I recall they are Clevite pistons. Have you checked with your local parts stores? I believe they are readily available. I know Napa lists them for my truck.

First Thanks Don I see you posting a lot of excellent information. So again for my part thanks.

I will book mark it as it does list a lot more options than I knew was available.

Yes My pistons are 20 over and the packaging gives mil spec numbers so old Mil surplus. They look good from what I can tell just no pin Clips. Mil surplus seems to be the rule on most parts to date.

Hard to believe I'm the only one thats ordered from there and didn't get clips. No I wont reuse the old ones. Not an option, to many stories of these being a failure source on many engines.

So they are going back. Any suggested source. Need 20 over pistons and pin WITH clips.

So lesson learned for other's, Bernbaums doesn't provide or have clips on the pistons either individually or as an assembly.

Talked with the machine shop and like everyone else said. Those are ALWAYS included. So lets try again.
