wayfarerstranger Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 HELLO a few months ago i put a new fuel pump on a 1950 DODGE , today i took the car for a spin i didn`t get to far and it cut off i thought i had ran out of gas so i put some more gas in it , that didn`t help i thought maybe i had a clogged line but i pulled the the glass bowl off and i had a steady steam of gas coming to the pump and the bowl was not dirty . i pulled the line going to the carb and there is no gas coming from the pump . so the pump is pulling but not pushing ... did this new pump just fail or could it be stopped up somehow ..anybody ever have this happen to them ?? Plymouthy Adams Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 looks like it is time to pull an inspect the pump actuating lever that is cam operated..pay close attention to the pivot pin on the actuating lever and the diaphram of the pump itself.. if physical damage to the pin..needs be replaceded under warranty..if that is good , contact the parts house about proceeding further..to tear it apart and inspect the diaphram may void your replacement warranty... Merle Coggins Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Yes, that seems to be a common issue with the newer replacement pumps. Mine lasted a couple of years and then left me stranded at a very busy intersection. Lukily I had rebuilt my old one and had it in a box under the seat. I was back on the road in no time. When you get a replacement have a good look at the pin and use a chisel or center punch and stake the new pin in place, by deforming the soft metal around the lip of the pin hole, so it won't come out again.
