Bob_Koch Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) Tim finally made it about 7:30 am to Bonneville after driving all night with a few brief naps in between. Just in time to get in line for Tech Inspection, hopefully. I and my brother attended the Rookie driving session and got a feel for the 130MPH course. Oops, we don't have fire extinguishers on our truck. We run to Wendover to see what we might find while Tim, and son Zak, finish up a few things on the truck. No reason to go to inspection till we get a these things done. "No, I don't think we need the 10 pound extinguisher for $165. We'll try another place" Thanks Carquest. Off we go and found two 3 lbs ones for at a truck stop. Inspection said we could use two smaller ones if we didn't have one 5 lb extinguisher. Got to inspection. "You need a strap around your driveline" Everything else is good. Off to Carquest again. No, nothing. To the hardware store. OK, found a metal strap and long threadall. We'll fabricate this yet. 5:30pm Run the car over to inspection. We're good to go, just need metal air stem caps. But, registration closed at 5PM. In the morning we can finish registration and then it's time to "Put Pedal To The Metal" As a note about Bonneville, lots of speed records being broken today. The salt is very hard this year and seems to be helping the runs. It must be pure adrenaline to run a open roadster at 250 MPH! I thinks it' time for a shower and get some dinner. We never did eat lunch and Tim hasn't slept since who knows. P.S. The pic of the engine is a pair of Detroit diesels machined together with two turbo's added. He's hoping for 200MPH. Like I said, you find everything here at Speed Week. Edited September 16, 2010 by Bob_Koch more info Quote

buds truck Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Tim, make sure the belts are tight and the helmet is secure. I don't want any "heart in the throat" moments..... Quote
dontknowitall Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 wish I could be there...... Quote
TodFitch Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Best of luck to you. By the way, I guess I don't understand this: ... We're good to go, just need metal air stem caps. ... Is there a safety issue with non-metal tire valve stem caps at high speed? Quote
Bob_Koch Posted September 17, 2010 Author Report Posted September 17, 2010 metal caps were part of the requirement. Plastic was not good enough. Not sure why and the inspector didn't have a good answer. Quote
