Was there such a thing? I've got my doors painted and installed and I'm wondering if the door handles had any kind of gasket behind them. Seems like the oval trim piece that mounts to the door might scratch the paint. Did they just mount straight metal-to-paint like that?

Thanks.

I've never seen gasket under that part, but,,,,,, a long time ago I used to put plastic electrical tape on the backside of the chrome trim strips to keep water from getting under them and thru the clip mount holes. By accident, it also kept the trim from scratching he paint when I popped it back on.

It's easy enough to make gaskets out of old tire tubes. Cut a piece a little larger than the door handle and mount the handle on top of it. Mark around the handle with a Sharpie, then remove the rubber and cut with a sturdy pair of scissors.

Joe, I checked in two P18 parts books and find nothing listed separately as either a "gasket" or a "seal" and I don't recall ever seeing a gasket on the door handles at all. There were aftermarket/accessory left and right stainless steel "key guards" that you could add that probably served the purpose of protecting the surface a little. They mount pretty much like gaskets but were definitely an accessory item and not standard.
