NiftyFifty Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 So I know I received lots of reply's to my question of dropping in a new non-dodge or non era motor into my 50 1 ton...now that my motor is in shambles and not repairable I'm considering going the distance to a frame swap. Now all I want is guys who have done the job...tell me how it was, what did you use and what did you have to modify to make things work? I appreciate any and all help, but please...not the save your frame and keep it stock...I'm long past that point already. Thanks guys! Quote
Dan Babb Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Here's a thread about a truck on a Dakota frame. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=14699&highlight=dakota+frame Quote
buds truck Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Mine is on a 91 Dodge Dakota frame, it really is an ez swap in my opinion, but I made it more complicated by channeling it over the frame and using the dakota floorboards. There is a great place on the dakota frame right behind the cab that is great for shortening the frame to size. Quote
NiftyFifty Posted September 3, 2010 Author Report Posted September 3, 2010 After I went over my receipts from this build...I'm not sure I can warrant a frame swap with all I put into this frame.. Can anyone tell me if a guy can still get a clutch kit for these old 4 speeds? If I find a motor I know I need a clutch... Quote

I mostly agree, never, never look at the receipts till you are finished with the truck and have actually driven it. By that time you will be so deeply in love with it that the cost will not really matter..... Kind of like having a wife.... LOL  Quote

LOL  Oh I got to drive it...I maybe put about 150 miles on it before it went KAAPPLLEEEWWWWEEYYYY (sp)....so the problem is looking at the investment in that frame means I would have wasted a LOT of money for a 150 miles....I also decided that it isn't the right truck IMO to hop up and make a speed demon.....I really want a car for that and my truck for shows and touring around my vintage sleds... So just to keep the question clear again Can I get a new clutch and pressure plate for the 4 speed in this truck now? Thanks guys...and don't worry...I haven't added ALL the bills together...if I did that my wife might ask me why I'm crying and I'll get caught Quote
Dave72dt Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Try this co. for parts. they claim same pressure plate for 50-55 1/2 through 1ton. http://www.vapinc.com/ Quote

Everytime I look at those lists, I tell myself I have to keep working cuz I've already spent too much to quit! Just don't tell my wife! Quote
