desoto1939 Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 For this price the seller needs to have some form of paper work to state that this is an old sign and not one that someone has made. There are very good reproductiions. I agree that the sign looks to be in to good of condition to be 70 years old and not show any sign of wear or of the paint daing o peeling. Even if it was an inside wall hanging. Too much for my blood and he needs to justify the cost. I have seen the metal porcelean signs for this cost and also the lighted signs. Quote
Flatie46 Posted July 30, 2010 Report Posted July 30, 2010 I've got a friend that'll paint one up much cheaper, set it outside for a while let the sun bake the patina in good then hang it up in the man cave. When people ask, "Is it a real vintage sign"? I'll say why yes it is, but I might not mention what vintage. Quote
Mustang6147 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Ive seen signs like that at Ceder Point amusment park. Right by the old car ride. Considering the Geauga Lake, and Six Flag theme park shut downs, I would guess in that good of shape, it may be right out of one of there wood shops, and used?? yup probably along those old car ride routes. Call me a pesomist, thats alotta dough Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Not a pessimist, but rather a pragmatist. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 i put a 500 offer in, but i dont think the seller will accept i cant see it being worth more. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 to me 500 aint bad anything more than that its nuts Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 I will say the back of the sign appears to be old wood.......... Quote
tinlizzy Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Sucks guys for that price I could build me a larger garage if I did it myself. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 I guess I'll just stick with my $12 metal new sign that was made to look old..... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Another new metal sign.......found somewhere in my travels. Doesn't look aged, but I like it. Quote
TJM70's_48 Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 I am always a skeptic on these kinds of things...especially hand painted. Although the sign is beautifully done, and does look like it's on old wood, are there are holes or marks on the back to show where / how it was mounted? Sometimes it's possible to find a NOS metal mass produced sign in an old back room, attic, basement or warehouse but if someone went to the effort to have a sign painter MAKE it, you can bet they would have HUNG it up. Our ancestors were far too practical to have paid for a sign from a signmaker and then stashed it in the closet. Can anyone make out a means of hanging? That might lend credibility to either it's legitimacy or the cleverness of a possible forger...I can't decide. Quote
