Robin (UK) Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Hi Guys, I think the time has come to make sure the doors on my convertible are fixed properly, and re-fitted. I'd like to get all the parts needed before strip-down - the doors are complete but I could do with fixing all the weatherstripping, rubbers, window sweepers, etc. so I just wonder if anyone else has done this recently and can recommend a supplier and/or give me a list of what I need? Thanks. Robin. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 Steele Rubber usually gets the votes for best product, I believe. They are pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for. Stay away from Bernbaum as I've heard there have been lots of problems with his rubber plus difficulty in getting them straightened out. Roberts' stuff is a bit cheap, in my opinion. Some of the rubber I got from them two years ago is already cracking. My own strategy will be to use Steele for the really critical stuff, like weatherstripping. Just my opinion. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 5, 2010 Report Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) I haven't re-done my doors in all the years I've had the car - but really should. Some of the old original rubber is still on the front edges, but I used some stick-on rubber strips (actually for home use) on the back edges. Not correct, but made the doors not rattle. Based on comments presented, I would use rubber from Steele. I don't know if they also sell the window sweeps.........if so, I'd get them there too. I finally found some convertible wing window frames, one of which still has that little top pivot for the wing. My left one has always been missing. Am going to see if a fellow I know can reproduce that pivot in his extensive machine shop at his home. If he can, I'll try to get some extra ones made as well. You may have both on yours. Young Ed Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Bob does it look like this? Where did you finally find yours? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Yes, Ed, it looks like that......only a little more shiney. Do ya wanna get rid of that one? Bought a pair of convert window frames from a guy in Texas.....one had the pivot left on it, other was missing. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 These pivots might be the same as later 1950-52 hardtop pivots. Here are pictures of both a 1950 Chrysler hardtop and a 1952 Plymouth Belvedere hardtop vent window top pivot. Possiblymore parts car avenues to hunt down these hard to find parts. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted July 6, 2010 Author Report Posted July 6, 2010 Thanks guys, This is all great advice... and much appreciated. I'll call Steele to see what they have. R. Quote
