Mirror rebuild

Recommended Posts

so my brother finally found and dug out the original mirror for my truck out of the random box in the machine shed behind the pile of "treasures" on the farm.

Good news: all parts there, little physical damage, and glass in one piece!:)

Bad news: the ball joint is shot...thing swings around like a kid on a rope swing:mad:

So question is this: any way to reseat the ball joint? Thoughts on refinishing the paint/can the glass be removed for repainting?

The glass probably has a rubber seal holding it in to the frame

Bad news: probably hard and brittle and useless for reusing and the glass will most likely break during rmoval.

Good news. Glass shops cut mirror glass on a regular basis so its replaceable and the rubber seal may be able to aquire from newer style mirrors.

sorta, on a longer arm....I haven't had a chance to drive back to the farm to get it, just going off what my brother told me.

Any body know where I can find a good inside rear view mirror? Mine is going nasty from the gack side fo the glass, and they seem to be hard to find at flea markets, etc.

The type mirror head mentioned in this thread are available from NAPA 0 either rectangular or round.

Thanks
