Powerhouse Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Hello....I need an external bypass thermostat housing for a 47 ply. Anyone know where to get it? My existing 47 block had an internal bypass type set up on it. The elbow doesn't even have the correct second port for the short hose. My block is definitely not internal bypass, nor is the head. garbagestate 44 Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Vintage power wagons probably has them. Or at least they are shown in their online catalog. Good luck Quote
Powerhouse Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 The ones I saw were for the Mil vehicles...the neck doesn't go straight up to the radiator. Thanks for the pointer. Quote
pflaming Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) I didn't hook mine up. I put a short water hose on the housing forced a wooden dowel into it and clamped it all tight. I was told the pi-pass feature was a cold weather feature. I got the housing but not the water pump. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. You are in Vista, CA. I think that is south of Anaheim, warm climate! Maybe you can see what I did on the picture. Sold an electronic fruit sizer to a lime packer in Vista back in '84. Long time ago! Powerhouse Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 Hey there...Vista is still a great place for produce. My Father in law has a small vineyard as a hobby...PERFECT weather here! I have a small garden too...one of the reasons I moved here form ol' NY. Anyway...I thought the bypass port is basically to keep water flowing before the stat opens preventing hot spots and possible damage in case the stat malfunctions. So wouldn't that be good for hot locations? I could be mistaken....which wouldn't be surprising. hahaha Quote
pflaming Posted June 8, 2010 Report Posted June 8, 2010 Powerhouse, I wasn't downplaying Vista. They have GREAT strawberries in Feb/Mar and lots more. Great place! Use to drive east to I-15 to each chicken livers at a little diner called 'three pigs' or something like that. For those who live in the East, in Vista it seldom gets to 80 in the summer or below 50 in the dead of winter, NICE! Don't know about the hot spots, except for Fresno! Quote
Powerhouse Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 No worries...I didn't think you were downplaying it at all. ??? I love it here...all though it's not perfect. Quote
Powerhouse Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) neat...you guys are awesome! I would need the part that sits on top of the water pump with two ports as well. shel_bizzy_48, I still have to send those decals... trouble with me is I get something ready and then forget about it. I'm not much of a multi-tasker sometimes. Edited June 9, 2010 by Powerhouse Quote

Powerhouse, can you post a pic of the one you have on here? I'm looking for a replacement internal bypass type housing. Vista is great. I have some friends who used to live there, just off Buena Creek/Valley Crest. All their neighbors were retired Marines, all with flag poles in their front yards. A beautiful place and an excellent location to grow anything. Quote
Powerhouse Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Hey there, Vista is great...plenty of great people! Agreed! The set up is just a plain old thermo housing...just a tube really...i'll try and get a pic. Quote

Powerhouse Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Haven't tried but was thinking about it...Maybe one of those fancy chrome plated ones would work? Quote
