47heaven Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I almost forgot to mention that my package tray from REM Automotive Inc. http://www.remautoinc.com/aboutus.php arrived today. It looks nice and is the right color for my interior color sceme. The only thing is that it doesn't have a sewn boarder like the original one did and it is not creased in the middle from side to side as the original was either, so it doesn't bent with the frame below the window. Nonetheless, it fits and will look pretty nice when it's installed. I added some pics to compare how close it is to the original. You can see how bad mine was. Quote
Furylee2 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 You may want to email these pictures to them. They sew that boarder on the kick panels. Maybe the master they patterned the tray board after didn’t have it. They seem like really good people to work with. I emailed them before I went to Hershey this year, about picking up a trunk mat for my 68 Fury III (wanted to save the oversize shipping). They asked me if I had the gray plaid or gray herringbone. I knew it wasn’t the plaid, so I told them herringbone. I took a piece of the original with me, and when I got there they had everything ready at the door. I gave them the piece, and he said it was hounds tooth. He went back and cut a new one and packaged it, no questions asked. Lee Quote
Johnny S Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 The cut on that package tray on my P18 looks like it could be reproduced using a sharp sheet rock knife and a very steady straight edge. It appears that it was made with a partial cut through the panel just like cutting half way through a piece of sheet rock. Just don't go all the way through!! Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 You could take it to an upholsterer and have them stitch a vinyl strip around the perimeter. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Like Johnny said, you could put a slight cut on the back of the tray then bend it where it's supposed to be bent. It should be bent in a brake though so the bend on the top side doesn't wrinkle when you bend it. I don't know what they are charging for that, but if they are selling it as a reproduction, the bend and trim should be there. Otherwise, anyone can cut out a piece of interior board and make their own real easy. A flat piece of that board that size only cost about 4 bucks. Quote
bob westphal Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I bought a panel from my upholsterer for $8 that I made the back seat trunk cover and the package tray panel. I made a slight cut on the under side of the package tray panel to facilitate the necessary bend. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 It's pretty amazing......the replacement parts that don't match the original. You pay good money, and still have to finish or modify to fit. If I make it myself, then I have no excuse. Otherwise it would be nice if the things were more accurate. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 exactly why my old saying is this " I can mess something up a lot cheaper than paying someone else to" Quote
47heaven Posted March 2, 2007 Author Report Posted March 2, 2007 I emailed the company contact person and sent a pic of the old and new package tray with a description of what I was expecting it to look like, which was like my original. I'm waiting to see if they can accomodate me. If not, I'll see what I can do to make it as close to the original as possible. I know an upholsterer that can probably sew bthe boarder onto it. Quote
