Has anyone installed the brake lining on the hand brake? I got the relining kit from Roberts (I thought I would try to reline it myself as opposed to sending the brake band in for relining). the shop manual says to drill a hole for the rivet head 1/2 way throught the lining. What would be the correct kind of drill to use? What can I use to place the rivets in?

You will need a counter sink drill bit and then also the brake lining rivet tool to crimp the rivet to the back of the metal lining.

Write to me at Desoto 1939@aol.com and let me know what car or truck you are doing this on and I will try to lookup the correct number rivet that you will need to purchase to do the job.

Did Roberts send you the rivets with the kit?

i can also send you a picture of the rivet tool.

I finally got my brake rivet tool and I knocked out the old rivets and when I lined up the new lining I found out that the brake lining I have is too short, it is 18 inches, the shop manuals says it should be 16 and some inches. My old lining is 22 1/4. Roberts is getting me a longer lining, but I wonder why mine is so much longer, (i.e., bigger brake drum). I have a four speed on the floor. Anyway, interesting twist.

The repair manual does show the larger drum and longer lining for the 1 ton and the parts manual makes a reference to the 4 speed using the 21" lining.

I saw they shop manual showed the larger drum for the 1 ton, but I didn't see any reference to the 4 speed. I guess I need to purchase the parts manual too. Anyway, Roberts has is going to send me the correct size.
