JerseyHarold Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 'Cause I just bought one from a '49. Hopefully I didn't goof. Thanks for your thoughts. Harold Quote
Ken Bartz Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Hollander Interchange Manual say it will not fit. However a large screwdriver for prying and a BFH it might.......... Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Ken, Thanks for the look-up. I've checked eBay and several sellers list it as fitting 49-52, but I don't know what they're basing their description on. Harold Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 1949 to 50 tanks are big and wide, 1951-2 tanks are narrow and more modern looking tanks. Cores are a different offset too. They won't interchange! Bob Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 OOOPS! What's a core offset? Quote
captden29 Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 i think the offset is where the upper and lower hoses come off the radiator. they are often on opposite sides from one year to another. i suppose anything can be made to fit, but that doesn't mean you have to make do with what you have. sell the mistake and purchase a correct one, or have your old one recored, which means you won't have somebody elses old one that may not have good flow or will leak shortly after installation and cause more serious problems than you anticipated. dennis Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 Dennis, I hear what you're saying about a used radiator being more trouble than it's worth. Both my cars have radiators and I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to lay in a spare. Looks like it becomes one more item on the 'sell' pile. Harold Quote
dezeldoc Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 Where are you located? my 50 needs one. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 I'm in Freehold, NJ...a mere 3000 miles from you! Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 The core offset --the forward/rearward location of the radiator core in the mounting straps and or location in the core support. Some sloppy slang used in the auto repair trade. I forgot to mention the 51-2 upper outlet points staight out and to ther rear as the 49-50 upper tank outlet angles down and to the rear. Bob Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 30, 2010 Author Report Posted May 30, 2010 I just took another look at the radiator and the number on there is 1309023. I couldn't find that number in my '54 and prior parts book. Any idea on what the application is? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 The MoPar interchange book supercedes to 1346572. 1950 Plym and 1949-50 Dodge. Bob Quote
