Been awhile but finally getting back to working on the Wayfarer.

Went to remove the distributor. It turns and will come out about an inch or so but can not get it completely out of the block.

Any suggestions, do not want to use too much force. What am I missing?

thanks

Mike

I would have to go out into the garage to look at the distributor body to see how far it goes into the block and if it extends that far into the crankcase to have carbon caked on the end of the housing, but I do not think so. I have pulled mine many times, easier to install new points and set them on the work bench than in the car. I have never encountered a problem like you are describing. So I can not be of any benefit in answering your question.

That is strange . Can you turn the motor over a little bit in case the crankshaft is in the way ? I haven't heard of that happening though . Also if you do this your timing will be off from where it was before .

Pull the dizzy back up where you had it before, and spray a generous amount of whatever lubricant you use and let it sit. Work it back and forth, gently of course and it should break free, it is just a tang and not a gear so it should come loose.

I can't imagine it getting so hot that it won't come free.

If my brain remembers---If you don`t have it at certain point it hits the crankshaft throws---put it back in and tap the starter for a different spot and try again till it comes out...........

If its a long block it may be hanging up on a crankshaft counter weight. I understand that there is some interference withthe crank in a certain position. If all else fails, rotate the engine by hand so you are TDC #1, should slip out and back in without a hitch.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them this evening . It disengages from the oil pump and will come out about an inch but no further. It is a 230.

bumped the dizzy 90 degrees came right out.

Question is there an O ring that belongs on the shaft? found pieces of what looked like it might have been a seal

most usual was a cork gasket, but ssomebody may have added a O ring over the years. No pressure there so its not a strict necessity.
