Captain Neon Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Sounds like a real deal if some one were to need, say, a cylinder head or intake manifold. Quote

james curl Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Shel, take your heat gun capable of 1,000 degrees and heat the joint until it is hot to the touch, or use a propane/map gas torch to heat hot enough for the old hard as a rock grease to start to liquidize, then try to grease the joint. I have removed the fitting then dug the old grease out from below the Zerk fitting before reinstalling the Zerk. I have a air operated grease gun and sometimes it takes a lot of heat and 100 lbs of air pressure to move that old grease out until you see fresh grease coming out from under your grease seals. If you do not get fresh grease all through the joint you have not accomplished the complete job. I have worked for hours on the upper and lower grease fittings on the spindles on my old pick up before I had success. That old grease can get as hard as asphalt pavement. Quote
