Bed to frame question

Recommended Posts

I've never seen any "schematics" for assembling the beds, but you can find some information on Mar-K's web site. http://www.mar-k.com/

After I pulled all of the rotten wood out of my bed, and removed the side and front panels, I took a couple of pictures to remind me how the cross members were. Here are a few of them.

You can see the long carriage head bolts that went through the boards and crossmembers and attached to the frame. These were through the front 2 crossmembers and in the rear one.

The 3rd crossmember is only attached to the bed, not to the frame.

I opted to bolt the crossmembers to the frame from undernieth rather than run the big bolts through the wood. Although it's not quite a factory look, I like it better than having those 6 bolt heads and washers showing.

I also used the Search feature and located these 2 threads that discussed the bed mounting and etc. They might be of help.

Also, if you go to the DEPTCA site and go into the Pilot House Gallery, look for Jim Shepard's album. He took a lot of photos during his restoration and there may be a few that will help you, like this one.

The cross members go in only one way,i.e., the holes on the bed sides. I just matched them up and drilled holes and mounted the cross members. Then I drilled them remaining holes from the bottom. I stood the bed on end, may be a bit more difficult with individual boards. The bed holes then are obvious for they are in the cross members. Study the bed, it shows where things go. Good luck.
