BobT-47P15 Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Decided it was time to give the ol Plym a good cleaning and shining, since we're taking it to a show tomorrow. I hadn't polished all the chrome and done the detail stuff for some time. Took most of last evening and better part of today to do all those pesky little things, plus wax the car. The dash stuff came out pretty good..... So, hopefully, tomorrow I can just loaf in the shade and sip a cool one while looking at other people's rides. Quote
RobertKB Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Your car looks great, Bob!! It's always kind of a pain in the butt to do a really detailed cleaning but the end result is always worth it. The dash looks great and so does your paint. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 Thanks, Robert. I even got out the old toothbrush for the little nooks and crevices where wax likes to hide. Meguiar's cleaner/wax in a maroon bottle did a good job. Next project I guess will be to replace the turn signal unit with a better one purchased on ebay. Hopefully it will work right since it has the rubber wheel that contacts the steering wheel to cancel after a turn. Just have to get in the mood to cut and splice those 7 wires....... Quote
JoelOkie Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Beautiful job on a great car there Bob. One thing for sure, if I see it in Tulsa (or any other place) I'll sure know who it is. Joel Quote

1940plymouth Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 Bob, All your hard work sure paid off, the converitble looks great. Have fun and take lots of photos to sure with all of us Quote
steveplym Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 I washed and waxed mine last night too Bob. I try to do a good cleaning and waxing at least once a year, usually in the spring. If you think shining your car is rough, try adding two more doors and a roof! Looking good Bob, have fun at the show. Quote
Flatie46 Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 It's a beautiful car, did you restore this car or buy already done? Quote
John Mulders Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Looks real good Bob, the Toyota in the back could need some wax too ! John Quote
PatS.... Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 It's a beauty, Bob. Nice job on the detailing. Quote
windsor8 Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 I noticed in the interior shot of your car that it appears that your compass is mounted to one of the windshield divider bar screws. I've been trying to fabricate a clamp type mounting bracket for an old Hull compass that I have. Looks like yours works well. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 It's a beautiful car, did you restore this car or buy already done? It didn't look quite this good when purchased in 1973. Some things I've done, other things I paid someone who knows more than me to do. Quote

Yes....that compass came with a suction cup to stick to the glass, or you could mount some other way using the hole provided in the bracket. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. It took a while for it to look like it does......and still needs some things. Didn't look too great before the first paint job. (Not the best pic, it's in my "fender book" I use at car shows.) Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 The show was nice and properly hot (finally, no rain!!). The fellow on your left won with his late model Mustang. The guy with the straw hat won with his Barracuda. Yours truly (and better half Mary Ann) on your right. Nice Barracuda.....moves right along........ The other two guys in that picture drove about 75 miles to attend the show. I've known the man with the straw fedora for several years. First time meeting his buddy. Had a cool brew with them in the beer garden at one point in the afternoon. Quote
Flatie46 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Bob that car's come a long way, thanks for posting. I like before and after shots. Tell that guy with the guy with the Barracuda about half way down the quarter panel 6" from the bottom I noticed a finger print. It's a sharp car! Quote
