41/53dodges Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 im debating whether to make a wooden flatbed for my B4B or fix the old bed. it needs new metal everywhere, and im at a lack of cash. what do you guys think? anybody have a flatbed replacing a pickup bed? are there any pics? i figure i intend to leave the truck crude and unpainted, so lets see how that goes. JoelOkie Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Crude and unpainted sounds like rat rod to me, so just about anythings goes with that. The cheapest out for you might be to get a piece of 12 gauge sheet iron and weld it in with some angle to the bed you have. The wooden flat beds run in to more expense than a guy thinks they might, time everything is bought and paid for. Good luck Joel Quote
41/53dodges Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 i myself am just tryin to put it on the road for the cheapest and most useful ways possible, and the bed i about $70 for green treated not including fenders, i can make them. if i fix the old bed, i need wood anyways, new crossmembers, fenders need patching, tailgate, fix all the panels, ETC. wendleburger Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 I put a timber flatbed with steel surround on my '49. Made the front curved to match the back of the cab. It also hinges up to access the propane tanks under it. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Nice work! The bed looks really good. Quote
41/53dodges Posted May 21, 2010 Author Report Posted May 21, 2010 that does look nice! i was just thinking 4x4 crossmembers with 2x8 boards, and make some diamond plate fenders. it would come out to 6' wide by 7' long. Quote

I've just got boat trailer fenders, basically the same as motorcycle fenders, to mount straight to the axle housing. That way they can hug the tyres nice and close and my bed can still tilt up unimpeded. They're cheap too That bed is about the same size (7'x6'). Proportions seem to match the cab pretty good, I think. Quote
41/53dodges Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 where are you putting your lights? do you have pics of the fenders? i am trying to set mine up so that the bed is kinda low and still allows full suspension travel. thats why i figure to make fenders that protrude through the bed boards. Allen I. Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 NIce looking flatbed there. The PO built a bed on my truck. I like how it looks but think I want a bed. Just cannot find one close for a B2C. I'll take pics and post in the next couple. Quote
41/53dodges Posted May 23, 2010 Author Report Posted May 23, 2010 i dunno, maybe i should patch up the old bed and use wood for the crossmembers? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 Nice work! The bed looks really good. Excellent design/welding and finish work! Bob Quote

Lights will mount under the rearmost bed rail. Not sure what I am going to use yet, but there is heaps of room. License plate will just be fixed to the rear crossmember that I grafted in, next to the tow hitch. Here is a pic of the fenders. Thanks for the kind words. Quote
