Young Ed Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 Well Dads 40 plymouth has been in a shop since I was in HS. I'm 30 now. Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 Well as long as there is progress that is what matters eh? Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 31, 2010 Author Report Posted May 31, 2010 I got my clutch pedal back from the machine shop with the new bushing and I slipped it on the shaft this weekend and there is very little movement now. Less than 1/8 inch and the end of the pedal. The machinist said it was more difficult to get it bored and put the bushing in than he thought it would be. The problem was two fold, one the two machined surfaces ont around the hole were worn and no longer parallel and, 2 it was just difficult to secure when boring. He used stainless steel for the bushing. When I first put in on the shaft I was a bit dismayed because the pedal now hit the steering column. I took the pedal off and noticed that the part of the pedal that comes through the floor was bent toward the passenger side. My guess is someone bent it to alliviate some of the rubbing on the floor board. I bent it back to where it was straight again and it works so well I can't believe it. He charged me $80. I don't know how well it will wear, but I won't be diriving it a huge amount so I think it will work fine. Quote
DollyDodge Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 Here is my clutch pedal, with the new bushing, new paint, and pedal pad. It looks cool to me, I am easily pleased. Quote
Dave72dt Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 I'm surprised the machinist didn't use a brass bushing. Now that the bushing is harder than the shaft, you may start to see some wear on the shaft develop. With the miles it'll probably see, it'll last the truck's lifetime and look and feel good doing it. DollyDodge Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 He said he could have used an oil light bushing or other softer material, but he had the stainless on hand and he figured as little amount of driving I would be doing he didn't think it would wear that much on the shaft. We will see. He offered to put in a oil light bushing if I wanted to change it, but I thought what the heck, it is way better than before. Quote
HanksB3B Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 but I really didn't have to my pedals are just fine. I think the comment about the ss bushing may be a valid one although I semi-agree that it'ss take a long time to wear the lever, but think of the future generation..they're not going to find this one on Ebay in 30 years. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vintage-Mopar-Brake-Clutch-Pedal-Assembly-/300331364751?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45ed24f18f I think if it was me, and since he offered I might consider going with a bronze bushing Hank Quote
DollyDodge Posted June 10, 2010 Author Report Posted June 10, 2010 I went and talked to the machinist, he really thinks the SS won't be a problem unless I was really using the truck a lot. He said he would order me a oilite bushing if I want and he will change it out (provided he can order just one). He made the hole a standard size so if anyone wanted to put in bronze bushing could do so. So we will see what happens. Quote
