On my Ply P-9 there is a hex head screw that is accessible through the hole at the 6:00 position of the dash board. The screw once removed allows the switch to be removed from the back side.

Good Luck

Thanks, I found the hole. It was covered by a snap on cover. I popped the cover off and tried to peek inside. The light I used was dim bit it looked like a slotted screw holding it in. Tryed to get it out but the light was too big and in the way of the screwdriver. Went there on my lunch break so not enough time to finish. Will try tomorrow while have the weekend off. Woody

Woody,

Mine had a slotted screw too and it came out easily enough by just sticking the screw driver uo through the access hole without even seeing it.

It was a slotted screw and came out fairly easy. Two problems though. The cylinder will not come out of the casing. I know they are spring loaded but that little pin will not depress to let it pop out. Second, all the wires are rotten so I marked them with color tape and cut them, then disconnected the col to remove the whole thing. I will need to replace all those wires before attemping to start it. Also pulled the plug wire harness to install new wires. My repair manual arrived today but the wiring diagram is not that great. Anyone have a good one thy can post or email to me? Thanks, Woody

Don't get destructive to get the cylinder out! Take the ignition lock to a locksmiths. They can pick the existing cylinder, turn it so the pin can be depressed, then make a key to fit the lock by 'impressioning'. Then, you have the correct key that will fit both the doors and ignition. Shouldn't be too expensive, especially if you bring them the lock.

Check your email Woody. DO NOT drill the pin. Send me the lock and I'll fit it for you. JerseyHarold is exactly correct. You got to pick the lock to pop out the cyl. Fitting a key to that cyl. is no big deal either. It's easy to do, email me and I'll take care of it for ya.

Hi:

I found this thread very usefull as I have an ignition switch that would occasionally start the car but for the most part the key would not even turn the switch.

I have rescued the lock from the locksmith that I took it to after he was talking about drilling out the pin and following the directions here was able to get the cylinder out myself.

The question is....is it the cylinder that is causing my grief or is the problem inside the housing?

Thanks in advance

Go to a good parts store. My Standard/Blue Streak Ignition Catalog from 1989 shows it's the same cylinder 1949-68. Their part number was US-12L. The keys will have the newer design heads.
