1950 Special Deluxe Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 I would like to clean the engine compartment so that I can see if and where it has leaks or seeps and to just generally clean it. Other that take the oil bath cleaner off and put a plastic bag over the carb. and the distributor is there any other precautions I should take? A co-worker cautioned me about this as he thinks there might be some cross flow ventilation openings. My first thoughts were to spray it down with engine cleaner and then pressure wash it with hot water. Everything under the hood is still original. Thanks Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 Is your engine a runner? When I clean one I pre soak it with a degreaser and then run it up to temperature. The grease buildup will come off easier when hot. I also do the spraying with the engine running at about 1500rpm and just stay away from the carb and dist. Quote
1950 Special Deluxe Posted March 19, 2010 Author Report Posted March 19, 2010 Yes, I have it running. I just finished doing the brakes and am ready to take it out once the snow melts in the next little while. Thanks Quote
greg g Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 be carefull of the oil fill breather also. You will get some puddling in the sparkp[lug recesses, you can blow this out with compressed air, I fyou let the engine heat evap it out it will leave a ring of residue. Quote
