Jim Saraceno Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 I have a son traveling around New Zealand right now. He bought a van that has been fixed up for camping. He sent me this picture telling me it has "sonar" but he wasn't sure what that meant. Anyone have any ideas? Quote

D25_Owner Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 I think it's part of the AquaNav or FshNet system (should you end up in water). Quote
Frank Elder Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 You can "Ping" the car ahead of you to let them know you are passing. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 (edited) Well after doing some googling I came up with this... http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/2008/05/12/toyota-tundra-parking-sonar-explained/ So I guess it is an electronic "curb feeler". Andydodge Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 There are apparently a lot of ex Japanese cars/vans in NZ that haven't had any changes done to their instrument setup.............notice the Japanese script above the sonar button........whtever it means.......lol..........andyd Quote
boxer_inv Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Hi guys Andy is absolutely right. The majority of imported cars to New Zealand are Japanese imports - second hand ones. So many of them have the quirky Japanese gadgets and often the japanese scripts to tell you what they are....?! I can't help with the sonar thing - I never had it on any of the cars I owned in NZ..... But I'm going with it being invaluable if you end up in the harbour somehow..! I've been in OZ now for almost 15 years, but still consider myself a Kiwi at heart! Quote
